- Dear User of PC-VT;
-
- Enclosed is the latest version of PC-VT and its documentation. I
- formatted the diskette double sided, 9 sectors per track in order to get
- all of the program to fit. PC-VT runs on the PC, the PCXT, the PCjr, and
- the PCAT under DOS 2.0, 2.1, 3.0 and 3.1. PC-VT no longer supports DOS
- 1.0 or 1.1.
-
- The documentation file is named PC-VT.DOC and can be copied to
- any line printer. It's about 110 pages.
-
- If any files on your distribution disk have a "Q" as the second
- character of the extension, they must be Unsqueezed with the USQ
- program.
-
- I have versions of XMODEM for the VAX running VMS, the VAX
- running UNIX 4.2BSD and PDP-11 RSX. You can get those by sending me a
- formatted 360Kb diskette and a pre-paid pre-addressesed diskette mailer.
- They are in library format and need the program LU and USQ to get to
- them. Make sure you tell me which ones you want. I can supply the USQ
- and LU programs as well. The XMODEM programs, USQ and LU are public
- domain.
-
- If you could upload PC-VT to your local RBBS, I would appreciate
- your help. You can upload PC-VT.EXE, HELP.DAT, and PC-VT.DOC. If you
- receive this in a .ARC file, just upload the entire .ARC file.
-
- Both the .EXE module and source for PC-VT are available for
- commercial distribution. Contact me for details of the licensing
- arrangements and fees.
-
- Enhancements for version 8.3 of PC-VT are:
-
- 1. On line HELP now works in the SETUP, DIALING, and MACRO frames.
- 2. Fast screen update (called "snow") is available for users with the
- color graphics card. Needed to support 9600 baud.
- 3. Keypad can be customized for either VMS running the EDT editor or
- UNIX running the VI editor.
- 4. Added some private escape sequences so you can write a program to
- permit automatic upload and download of files.
- 5. The screen is now saved in all modes when you switch to one of the
- support frames or when you call up DOS.
- 6. You can now customize PC-VT for each host in the 10 entry dialing
- directory. Now, when you dial a host, a complete copy of
- SETUP information for that host in particular is loaded into
- PC-VT before the dialing begins. The old version of DIALER.DAT
- will not work with this version of PC-VT.
- 7. The underscore attribute when using the color graphics adapter is
- now shown as a combination of the bold and blinking attributes.
- 8. Documentation has been expanded to cover more technical details of
- the operation of the program.
- 9. Runs a version of KERMIT 1.20 by pressing ALT-K.
- 10. File transfer defaults to XMODEM unless you specify ASCII.
- 11. Copyright fee has NOT changed.
-
- Future plans include a Tektronix 4014 emulator integrated with
- PC-VT, some sort of 132 column mode for the VT Emulator, and replacing
- v1.20 KERMIT with v2.27.
-
- Some users of PC-VT have reported problems with XMODEM under VMS
- version 4.0. Due to some change made by DEC in that release, an
- additional parameter must be set using the VMS SET TERM command. For
- each TT line that will be used with PC-VT, you must set the Alternate
- Type Ahead Buffer. This command may have to be performed by your VMS
- systems programmers. Contact your DEC representative for more
- information.
-
- The size of the documentation has grown so much that PC-VT is
- not able to create the necessay files for running on the distribution
- disk. Just copy PC-VT.EXE off to another diskette or hard disk and then
- run it.
-
- Since this program is user supported, it is user driven. I
- continually make upgrades based on user requests. I bump the version
- number only when a significant change occurs. I will use this file to
- list the upgrades within each version number release:
-
- DATE Function: Change:
- ---- --------- -------
- 08/30/85 First release of version 8.3
- 09/20/85 ESC M Reverse Index did not
- work correctly under EDT on
- VMS 4.x
- 09/26/85 Alternate keys for PCjr because of a BIOS problem.
- Instead of: Use:
- CTRL-F8 ALT-C
- CTRL-F9 ALT-V
- CTRL-F10 ALT-O
- (NOTE - PCjr users should always execute the
- MODE BW80 command to DOS before running PC-VT)
- 09/30/85 XMODEM Sometimes went into
- CRC mode when Checksum
- mode was requested
- 10/16/85 CTRL-BREAK Sometime canceled the program
- when it shouldn't
- 10/25/85 End of File Detection Changed to use the byte count
- instead of CTRL-Z.
- 10/31/85 File Length Puts exact file length in the
- directory.
- 11/06/85 DOS 1.x No longer supported.
-
- You can always get the latest version of PC-VT from me. Call my
- number below to find out what the latest version number is. I also keep
- the latest version up on several San Diego Bulletin Boards. The best bet
- is the Alpo-Net Fido board (net 102 node 203) at 619-741-3412. You can
- leave me mail on that board or you mail it to me there via FidoNet. You
- can also try 619-561-7817. For other locations around the country, try
- 806-353-7484 or 617-277-6538.
-
- I hope that the program is of use to you. I would appreciate any
- comments which you might have regarding the program or its usefulness.
- When you write, please indicate the version number of PC-VT which you
- are using.
-
- Ciao,
