  7. Dear User of PC-VT;
  8.  
  9.     Enclosed is the latest version of PC-VT and its documentation. I
  10. formatted the diskette double sided, 9 sectors per track in order to get
  11. all of the program to fit. PC-VT runs on the PC, the PCXT, the PCjr, and
  12. the PCAT under DOS 2.0, 2.1, 3.0 and 3.1. PC-VT no longer supports DOS
  13. 1.0 or 1.1.
  14.  
  15.     The documentation file is named PC-VT.DOC and can be copied to
  16. any line printer. It's about 110 pages.
  17.  
  18.     If any files on your distribution disk have a "Q" as the second
  19. character of the extension, they must be Unsqueezed with the USQ
  20. program.
  21.  
  22.     I have versions of XMODEM for the VAX running VMS, the VAX
  23. running UNIX 4.2BSD and PDP-11 RSX. You can get those by sending me a
  24. formatted 360Kb diskette and a pre-paid pre-addressesed diskette mailer.
  25. They are in library format and need the program LU and USQ to get to
  26. them. Make sure you tell me which ones you want. I can supply the USQ
  27. and LU programs as well. The XMODEM programs, USQ and LU are public
  28. domain.

  30.     If you could upload PC-VT to your local RBBS, I would appreciate
  31. your help. You can upload PC-VT.EXE, HELP.DAT, and PC-VT.DOC. If you
  32. receive this in a .ARC file, just upload the entire .ARC file.

  34.     Both the .EXE module and source for PC-VT are available for
  35. commercial distribution. Contact me for details of the licensing
  36. arrangements and fees.

  38.     Enhancements for version 8.3 of PC-VT are:
  39.  
  40. 1. On line HELP now works in the SETUP, DIALING, and MACRO frames.
  41. 2. Fast screen update (called "snow") is available for users with the
  42.     color graphics card. Needed to support 9600 baud.
  43. 3. Keypad can be customized for either VMS running the EDT editor or
  44.     UNIX running the VI editor.
  45. 4. Added some private escape sequences so you can write a program to
  46.     permit automatic upload and download of files.
  47. 5. The screen is now saved in all modes when you switch to one of the
  48.     support frames or when you call up DOS.
  49. 6. You can now customize PC-VT for each host in the 10 entry dialing
  50.     directory. Now, when you dial a host, a complete copy of
  51.     SETUP information for that host in particular is loaded into
  52.     PC-VT before the dialing begins. The old version of DIALER.DAT
  53.     will not work with this version of PC-VT.
  54. 7. The underscore attribute when using the color graphics adapter is
  55.     now shown as a combination of the bold and blinking attributes.
  56. 8. Documentation has been expanded to cover more technical details of
  57.     the operation of the program.
  58. 9. Runs a version of KERMIT 1.20 by pressing ALT-K.
  59. 10. File transfer defaults to XMODEM unless you specify ASCII.
  60. 11. Copyright fee has NOT changed.

  62.     Future plans include a Tektronix 4014 emulator integrated with
  63. PC-VT, some sort of 132 column mode for the VT Emulator, and replacing
  64. v1.20 KERMIT with v2.27.
  65.  
  66.     Some users of PC-VT have reported problems with XMODEM under VMS
  67. version 4.0. Due to some change made by DEC in that release, an
  68. additional parameter must be set using the VMS SET TERM command. For
  69. each TT line that will be used with PC-VT, you must set the Alternate
  70. Type Ahead Buffer. This command may have to be performed by your VMS
  71. systems programmers. Contact your DEC representative for more
  72. information.

  74.     The size of the documentation has grown so much that PC-VT is
  75. not able to create the necessay files for running on the distribution
  76. disk. Just copy PC-VT.EXE off to another diskette or hard disk and then
  77. run it.

  79.     Since this program is user supported, it is user driven. I
  80. continually make upgrades based on user requests.  I bump the version
  81. number only when a significant change occurs. I will use this file to
  82. list the upgrades within each version number release:

  101.                     when it shouldn't
  102. 10/25/85    End of File Detection    Changed to use the byte count

  104. 10/31/85    File Length        Puts exact file length in the
  105.                     directory.
  106. 11/06/85    DOS 1.x            No longer supported.

  108.     You can always get the latest version of PC-VT from me. Call my
